About the Author

Norman Haynes is the inventor of the tea bag, and has been credited with this invention since its first patent in 1903. Haynes was born in 1858 in Stockport, England, and moved to the United States in 1884. He began working as a salesman for the A.D. Forbes Tea Company, and it was during this time that he developed the idea for the tea bag. Haynes filed a patent for the tea bag in 1903, and the design was later licensed to the Lipton Tea Company. Haynes died in 1941.
